
INGREDIENTS
- Payar (Cowpea) : 1/4 Kg
- Onion / Shallots : half Sabola/ 5-6 shallots
- Garlic (Optional) : 3 cloves
- Turmeric powder : 1/4 Teaspoon
- Crushed dried red chilly : 1 Tablespoon
- Coconut oil
- Curry Leaves : 1 sprig
- Salt
Method
- Wash payar thoroughly using salt and turmeric water and cut them into small pieces.
- Add 1/4th cup of water and cook the payar along with 3 garlic (optional) in a cooker for 2 whistles.
- Place a pan on fire and add little coconut oil into it.
- Add shallots/onion, curry leaves into the oil and saute it for 1 minute.
- Add 1/4th teaspoon of turmeric powder and saute until the raw smell goes off.
- Drain the excess water in the cooker and transfer the payar to the pan and mix it well.
- Add salt as per the requirement and crushed red chillies and mix it again.
- Close the lid of the pan and cook for 2 minutes. Tasty Payar Mezukkupuratty is ready.
